Kristen Brubaker is an Associate Professor of Biology in the Department of Biological and Health Sciences at Bloomsburg University. She teaches Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, and Immunology, with research focused on stress response regulation in bees.
- Research: Investigates transcription factors enabling invasive bee survival in extreme conditions, ethanol metabolism in honey bees, and gene expression changes via real-time PCR.
- Collaboration: Works with Dr. John Hranitz on alcohol tolerance studies in Apis mellifera.
- Students: Advises undergraduate and graduate students, including Justin Heller's Masters work on stress-related genes.
Grants:
- 2019-2021: Expression Study of Acute Alcohol Tolerance-Associated Genes jwa and hangover in Apis mellifera.
- 2018-2019: Ethanol-Induced Changes in Gene Expression in the Brain of European Honey Bees.
Future Work: Plans to expand studies on hsp-70, jwa, and dunce genes in honey bee stress responses.
