Jonathan Snow is the Chair and Professor of Biological Sciences at Barnard College. His research focuses on cellular stress responses in honey bees and their interactions with pathogens like Vairimorpha (Nosema) ceranae. He holds a B.A. from Williams College, a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from UCSF, and a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School. His work addresses honey bee colony decline through stressor analysis and developing therapeutic strategies. He teaches courses in cell biology and immunology.
- Education:
- B.A., Williams College
- Ph.D., Biomedical Sciences Program, University of California, San Francisco
- Research Fellow, Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School
Research interests include immunology, cellular stress responses, signal transduction, and gene expression regulation. His lab investigates stress-induced pathways in bees and pathogens, with recent breakthroughs in proteostatic network characterization and antiparasitic drug development. Notable grants include a 2023 NSF award.
Publications span pharmacological strategies, stress biology, and microbial interactions. The lab has mentored students like Melissa Flores and Eliana Elikan, advancing sustainable solutions for pollinator health. The Snow Lab collaborates on projects like STEAM in the City to engage educators in environmental science.
