Kristel Pappel is a Professor of Musicology at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, where she serves as Head of the Centre for Doctoral Studies and Chair of the Doctoral Council. Her scholarly work focuses on musical theatre, 19th-century Estonian music life, and artistic research methodologies.

She has received the Order of the White Star (2016) and multiple Estonian Cultural Foundation awards.
