Krista M. Aronson is a Professor of Psychology and Associate Dean of the Faculty at Bates College. Her work bridges research and practice in higher education equity, racial identity development, and multicultural education. She holds a Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Michigan (2003), an M.A. from the same institution (2000), and a B.A. in Psychology from Ithaca College (1996).
Her research focuses on racial identity formation, acculturation processes, and the representation of underrepresented groups in children’s literature and educational materials. Key areas include the psychological adaptation of migrants, the role of racial socialization in families, and interventions to promote intergroup understanding in schools.
Dr. Aronson’s recent work emphasizes translating academic insights into actionable initiatives, such as fostering inclusive communities through volunteer-based EDI frameworks. Her 2022 paper on BIPOC representation in children’s books earned the 2024 David Cohen Award. She collaborates with Bates students on projects addressing diversity in publishing and educational equity.
As Associate Dean, she oversees faculty governance and academic policies, integrating her expertise in institutional change and equity leadership. Her scholarship and administrative roles reflect a commitment to applying psychological research to societal challenges through education and community engagement.
