Krista Kesselring is a Professor in the Department of History at Dalhousie University, with cross-appointments in Gender & Women’s Studies, Law, Justice & Society, and European Studies. She holds a BA and MA from Dalhousie University and a PhD from Queen’s University (2000). Her research focuses on early modern legal and political systems, with an emphasis on gender, religious reform, and justice.
Her work examines topics such as homicide in early modern England, married women’s legal status under coverture, the 1569 Northern Rebellion, and the role of mercy in Tudor governance. She is currently co-authoring a book on post-Reformation divorce history and studying the Court of Star Chamber’s use of records and evidence.
Publications include Making Murder Public (2019), Married Women and the Law (2013), The Northern Rebellion of 1569 (2007), and Mercy and Authority in the Tudor State (2003). These works highlight her expertise in legal history, political conflict, and gender dynamics in early modern Europe.
