Krista H Lagus

Krista H. Lagus is a Professor of Digital Social Science at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Social Science. She bridges artificial intelligence and digital methods with social sciences to analyze societal behaviors.

• Education: M.Sc. in Computer Science (1996), Ph.D. in Computer and Information Sciences (2000) from Helsinki University of Technology (now Aalto University)

Her research spans AI, NLP, and machine learning applied to social science contexts. She co-founded the Center for Social Data Science (CSDS) in 2019 and developed impactful projects like WEBSOM (visualizing text collections), Citizen Mindscapes (public opinion analysis), and Morfessor (NLP morphological analysis).

Her work has been published in journals including IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks, Information Sciences, Neurocomputing, and Cognitive Science. She actively teaches and supervises students in AI and digital social science, fostering interdisciplinary education for societal benefit.

Lagus served as an Academy Research Fellow at the Finnish Academy of Sciences (2006-2012) and has been affiliated with both the University of Helsinki and Aalto University's Information and Computer Science departments.
