Krissy Gray is a Professor of Music in the Department of Music within the College of Arts and Sciences at Southwestern Christian University, where she has been teaching since 2024. Her expertise lies in music theory, piano pedagogy, and the hermeneutic interpretation of music, with a strong emphasis on female composers and performers.
Her educational background includes a BS in Piano Performance from Southern Nazarene University and an MM in Music Theory from the University of Oklahoma. She is an active member of the American Musicology Society, Society for Music Theory, and Music Teachers National Association.
Dr. Gray's research centers on Musical Hermeneutics, the works of female composers—particularly Clara Schumann—and the emotional narratives in music, including the music of horror films. Her teaching portfolio includes Aural Skills, Music Theory, Form & Analysis, Music Composition & Orchestration, and Applied Piano, reflecting a deep commitment to both theoretical and practical musicianship.
Her recent scholarly work explores Clara Schumann’s compositional voice through interpretive and analytical lenses, focusing on identity, independence, and emotional depth in her music. These works reflect a trend toward integrating biographical context with structural analysis in music scholarship.
She is passionate about mentoring students in discovering their musical gifts and using them to influence others. Her advising philosophy emphasizes personal growth, artistic expression, and service through music.
