Krishnaraj Rathod

Krishnaraj Rathod is a Clinical Senior Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London's William Harvey Research Institute and a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Barts Heart Centre. His academic role combines clinical practice with translational cardiovascular research, focusing on nitrate therapy, reperfusion injury, and interventional cardiology outcomes. He holds a prestigious NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship and leads the NITRATE-OCT clinical trial investigating dietary nitrate's effects in stable angina patients.

Education: MBBS with distinctions from Barts School of Medicine, including an intercalated BMedSci (1st Class Hons) in Molecular Therapeutics. Completed an MSc in Clinical Trials and is actively supervising 4 PhD/MD students.

Research Interests: Translational clinical trials, nitric oxide biochemistry, sex differences in cardiovascular disease, and cost-effectiveness of therapies. He has published over 110 peer-reviewed articles and 200 abstracts, with a focus on coronary artery disease, revascularization strategies, and post-PCI outcomes.

Awards: Over 100 awards, including the British Cardiology Society 'Best of the Best' Abstract (2023), HSJ Innovation Award (2022), and BPS Vogt Prize (2019). Recognized for contributions to acute myocardial infarction pathway optimization and nitrate research.

Teaching: Leads cardiology education at Queen Mary, supervises medical students, and co-directs interventional cardiology training programs. Actively involved in postgraduate research supervision and clinical mentorship.

Labs/Teams: Principal investigator in the Vascular Pharmacology Group and Barts Interventional Cardiology Research Department, collaborating with Professors Ahluwalia, Mathur, and Baumbach on projects ranging from nitrate mechanisms to regenerative medicine.
