Professor Krishna Busawon is a leading academic in Control Systems Engineering and Head of the Electrical Power and Control research group at Northumbria University's Faculty of Engineering and Environment. He holds a PhD from the University of Lyon and has held roles at Simon Fraser University (Canada) and the University of Nuevo León (Mexico) before joining Northumbria in 2000. His career includes appointments as Senior Lecturer (2000), Reader (2008), and Professor (2013).
Education:
- Bachelor's in Mathematics and Fundamental Sciences, University of St-Etienne (1989)
- BEng and MSc in Electrical Engineering, University of Lyon (1990–1991)
- MPhil and PhD in Control Systems Engineering, University of Lyon (1992–1996)
Research Interests:
- Mathematical modeling and nonlinear control theory
- Fault detection and isolation in mechanical, power, and biotechnological systems
- Recent focus on compressive sensing, chaos communications, and hybrid systems
Awards and Affiliations:
- Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA)
- Fellow Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology (FIET)
- Senior Member of IEEE
- Chair of the IEEE Control Systems Chapter for the UK and Ireland (2019–present)
Grants & Projects:
- Principal Investigator for the €110k EU-funded THREE-Lanka project (2021–2024) on renewable energy technologies
- Lingusitics Course collaboration with the Regional Center and Nancy Territorial Center (2020)
Leadership: Oversees the 5 PhD students currently under his supervision and directs the Electrical Power and Control research group at Northumbria.
