Dr. Kouros Owzar is currently a Professor of Biostatistics & Bioinformatics and Director of DCI Bioinformatics at Duke Cancer Institute. He actively contributes to Duke Center for Statistical Genetics and Genomics as a faculty member.
- Ph.D., University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (2002)
His research focuses on cancer pharmacogenomics and statistical genetics, with emphasis on analyzing drug-induced neuropathy, neutropenia, and hypertension through survival analysis and high-dimensional data methods. His work also includes copulas and statistical computing for complex biomedical datasets.
Recent publications highlight his expertise in single-cell analysis, immunogenomic profiling, and biomarker variability. Key methodologies include time-informed microbiome analysis (TEMPTED), cell annotation (SifiNet), and race-based molecular outcome studies.
Dr. Owzar's funding portfolio includes:
- Disparate Survival, Disparate Workforce (NIDCR 2024-2029)
- Quantitative Methods for HIV/AIDS (NIAID 2018-2028)
- Single Cell Analysis of Lethal Breast Cancers (DoD 2024-2028)
- Computational Methods for Rare Variants (NHGRI 2022-2026)
He also leads training programs in cancer immunology and microbiome research (NCI 2020-2026).
