Kouider Mokhtari holds the Anderson-Vukelja-Wright Endowed Professorship in literacy education at the University of Texas at Tyler. He earned an interdisciplinary PhD in Applied Linguistics, Cognitive Psychology, and Curriculum & Instruction from Ohio University. Dr. Mokhtari directs the Literacy Center and currently serves as Interim Dean of the Graduate School.
His research focuses on language/literacy acquisition, particularly comprehension difficulties in first/second language learners across developmental stages. Notable contributions include developing the Metacognitive Awareness of Reading Strategies Inventory (MARSI) and designing evidence-based literacy interventions.
Publications demonstrate consistent focus on reading strategy instruction, academic vocabulary development, and digital literacy applications. Recent research examines factors influencing adolescent reading achievement and AI's educational implications.
Honors include presidential appointments to Morocco's Supreme Council for Education, international literacy awards, and recognition for research transforming English learner instruction through Harvard-published works.
