Kostas Margellos is an Associate Professor in the Department of Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Control Group. He holds positions as an Official Fellow in AI & Machine Learning at Reuben College and a Lecturer at Worcester College. His academic journey includes a PhD in Automatic Control from ETH Zurich (2012) and postdoctoral research at ETH Zurich, UC Berkeley, and Politecnico di Milano. Margellos' research focuses on Control Systems, Optimization, and their applications in smart energy networks and multi-agent systems. He has received notable awards, including the ETH Medal (2013) and multiple Teaching Excellence Awards (2019–2022).
Research interests encompass reachability analysis, randomized optimization, statistical learning theory, and decentralized computation. Current projects include EPSRC-funded work on electric vehicle charging control and Food Union DPhil projects on attended home delivery management. His work bridges theoretical advancements with practical applications in power networks and autonomous systems.
Recent publications highlight contributions to distributed control design, safety verification, and data-driven methods. Margellos has also contributed to academic service as an Associate Editor for Automatica and IEEE journals. His interdisciplinary approach integrates control theory, optimization, and machine learning to address complex system challenges.
