Kostas Ioannidis is an Associate Professor of Theory and Criticism at the Athens School of Fine Arts. He specializes in art theory, photography history, and cultural studies with a focus on Greece and its transnational cultural dynamics. His research explores intersections between aesthetics, ethics, and historical representation.
- Recipient of the State Award for Essay and Criticism (2020) for his book on 19th/20th century photography poetics.
- Fulbright Scholar (2013) conducting research at MoMA and Rockefeller Archive Center on Greek-US cultural relations during the Cold War.
- Conducted research on Smyrna Prison photographs (1919-1922) as a Clark Art Institute Fellow (2022).
- Principal Investigator of the TECHNO-LOGIA research program and member of the Hellenic Foundation for Research Innovation (HFRI) General Assembly.
His work examines topics like Minimalism's moral implications, early 20th-century Greek photography, and the role of photography in cultural translation. He has authored influential books including An ‘exquisitely hybrid art’ (2019) and co-authored Three at Sea (2018).
