Professor Alexandra Moschovi holds the position of Professor of Photography/Curating and Research Student Manager at the University of Sunderland's Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries. She specializes in photography, curating, and visual culture, with a focus on digital media, museum practices, and the history of Hellenic photography. Her academic leadership includes designing and delivering core theory modules for undergraduate and postgraduate programs in photography and visual arts. She supervises doctoral students in art history, photography, and curating studies.
Professor Moschovi’s research spans three key areas: the cultural role of networked images, the integration of photography in museums, and the history of 20th-century Greek photography. Notable works include co-editing The Versatile Image: Photography, Digital Technologies and the Internet (2013) and authoring A Gust of Photo-Philia: Photography in the Art Museum (2020). She has curated exhibitions such as Realities and Plausibilities (2009) and contributed to international conferences and publications.
Her teaching and research emphasize interdisciplinary approaches, blending theory and practice. She is a peer reviewer for the AHRC and European Research Council, and serves on editorial boards for journals like Journal of Greek Media and Culture. Awards include the Advance HE Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (2017) and a Stanley J. Seeger Research Fellowship (2008).
