Konstantinos Providakis is a Professor and Director of the Applied Mechanics Laboratory (AMELab) at the School of Architecture, Technical University of Crete, Greece. He holds a PhD in Structural Mechanics and Mechanics of Materials from the University of Patras (1988) and a Structural Engineer degree from the same institution (1983).

Research Interests include:
- Mechanics of Materials and Structural Mechanics
- Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) with smart sensors
- Nondestructive evaluation of structural materials
- Advanced smart materials like piezoelectrics and shape memory alloys
- Computational modeling and experimental verification of structural behavior under static/dynamic loading
- Seismic risk mitigation and fracture mechanics
Advising and Research Leadership: He has chaired 5 doctoral theses and 16 master's theses and directs a group of 6 graduate students at AMELab. His grants include participation in the THALIS Programme (2010–2013) for wireless SHM systems.
Labs and Teams: AMELab focuses on smart structures, material testing, and computational modeling. Divisions include Structural Simulation, Material Testing, and Manufacturing.
