معرفی
Dr. Konstantinos Gkrintzalis is an Assistant Professor in the School of Biotechnology at Dublin City University (DCU). His research focuses on Redox Biology, Biochemistry, and their applications in Biosciences, with expertise in Oxidative Stress mechanisms, Nanotoxicology, and Ecotoxicology. He leads an independent research program in Environmental Metabolomics and Systems Ecotoxicology, supported by a prestigious SIRG grant from Science Foundation Ireland. He established DCU's first freshwater organisms facility to advance ecotoxicological studies.
Education & Experience
- PhD in Biochemistry with postgraduate research on fungal sclerotial metamorphosis and aflatoxin biosynthesis linked to oxidative stress.
- Postdoctoral fellowships at Université catholique de Louvain (nanotoxicology of silver nanoparticles) and University of Birmingham (molecular ecotoxicology using Daphnia magna).
Research Contributions
- Developed novel biochemical assays for oxidative stress biomarkers and metabolomic approaches to study organism responses to environmental stressors.
- Collaborated with NASA astrogeophysicists on Mars analog studies and Tunisian medicinal plant antioxidant properties.
- Pioneered miniaturized toxicity assays and discovered metabolite corona fingerprints on nanomaterials.
Awards & ImpactRecipient of SIRG grant (2017–present), with an h-index of 12 and 323 citations. Active in interdisciplinary research spanning planetary science, clinical biochemistry, and environmental toxicology.
