Stefanos Dailianis

Stefanos Dailianis is a full Professor in the Department of Animal Biology, School of Sciences, University of Patras, Greece. His office is located on the 3rd floor of the Biology Department building, and he can be reached at sdailianis@upatras.gr.

Teaching Contributions
At the undergraduate level he teaches Animal Biology I & II, Environmental Pollution and Ichthyology. He also delivers postgraduate courses on Assessment and Management of Aquatic Ecosystems (M.Sc. Applied Ecology), Toxicity Testing and New Challenges (M.Sc. Green Chemistry), Ecological Genetics & Ecotoxicology (Inter-departmental Environmental Sciences M.Sc.), and Anthropogenic Impacts on the Marine Environment (Inter-departmental Oceanography M.Sc.).

Research Interests
Professor Dailianis leads an integrated research program in aquatic ecotoxicology. Core themes include:

• Development and validation of marine and freshwater bioassays using key sentinel species such as Mytilus galloprovincialis, Artemia franciscana, Daphnia magna and Dunaliella tertiolecta.
• Assessment of oxidative stress, DNA damage and endocrine disruption induced by metals, pharmaceuticals, ionic liquids and nanoparticles.
• Environmental risk assessment of wastewater, landfill leachate and olive-mill effluents through a battery of cytotoxic, genotoxic and human-toxicity assays.
• Application of advanced oxidation (ultrasound, photocatalysis, ozonation) for pollutant degradation and toxicity reduction.

Publication Trends
Between 2010 and 2017 he published extensively on the ecotoxicological impacts of emerging contaminants, with a clear focus on oxidative-stress biomarkers and genotoxic endpoints in bivalves and microalgae. Recent work increasingly couples advanced treatment technologies (photocatalysis, ozonation, ultrasonication) with multi-level biological effect assessment, bridging environmental chemistry and toxicology.

Laboratory & Collaborations
His research group operates within the Department of Animal Biology laboratories, equipped for cellular and molecular ecotoxicology, analytical chemistry and bioassay testing. He actively collaborates with national and international partners in the European Liquid Biopsy Society Research Hub and contributes to large-scale monitoring programs in the Eastern Mediterranean.
