Konrad Talmont-Kaminski is a Professor at the University of Wrocław and Head of the Society & Cognition Unit. His research focuses on the cognitive and evolutionary foundations of religion, combining insights from cognitive science, evolutionary biology, and philosophy. He holds a doctorate from Monash University and was a fellow at the Konrad Lorenz Institute for Evolution and Cognition Research in Vienna.
Education:
- PhD in Philosophy, Monash University (Australia)
- Studies at University of Melbourne and University of Western Ontario
Research interests include the cognitive basis of magical beliefs, prosocial behavior driven by religious ideologies, and the evolutionary mechanisms behind secularization trends. His work bridges empirical studies with theoretical frameworks, emphasizing ritual behavior, epistemic vigilance, and the role of cognitive by-products in religious phenomena.
Key projects include Religion, Ideology & Prosociality: Simulating Secularizing Societies (2020–2023) and Opaqueness, Ritualisation, Anxiety: The Cognitive Foundations Of Ritual (2017–2021). His 2014 book Religion as a Magical Ideology argues that religions merge supernatural cognition with prosocial motivational systems.
Notable awards include a fellowship at the Konrad Lorenz Institute. His work explores intersections between ritual efficacy, social cohesion, and cognitive models of belief formation.
Research labs/teams: Directs the Society & Cognition Unit, focusing on interdisciplinary studies in cognitive science and religious studies.
