معرفی
Kolja Eppert, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at McGill University and a Scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), Glen site. He is affiliated with the Child Health and Human Development Program and the Centre for Translational Biology.
Research Interests:
- Pediatric acute myelogenous leukemia (AML)
- Leukemia stem cell biology
- Hematopoietic stem cell gene expression
- Xenotransplantation and preclinical models
- Bioinformatics and biostatistics in cancer research
His laboratory focuses on understanding the biology of AML stem cells in both pediatric and adult patients, with the goal of developing targeted therapies for childhood AML—a disease where approximately 55% of patients still succumb despite aggressive treatment. His prior work in adult leukemia has led to the identification of gene signatures that predict patient survival, which he is now applying to pediatric leukemia.
Scientific Contributions:
Eppert has published extensively in high-impact journals such as Nature, Nature Medicine, Blood, and Cell Stem Cell. His work spans from identifying pre-leukemic stem cells to developing small molecule therapies targeting leukemia stem cells. Notable contributions include the discovery of gene expression programs that influence leukemia outcomes and the validation of novel therapeutic compounds through high-throughput screening.
