Kobena Mercer is the Charles P. Stevenson Chair in Art History and Humanities at Bard College and CCS Bard. His scholarship examines African American, Caribbean, and Black British artists through frameworks integrating art history, Black studies, and cultural theory.
Seminal publications include Welcome to the Jungle (1994), which analyzes Black cultural forms, and Travel & See (2016), tracing global Black art practices. He edited Stuart Hall's The Fateful Triangle and MIT's Annotating Art's Histories series, advancing critical discourse on cosmopolitan modernism and diasporic art.
