Prof. Dr. Klaus Peter Koch is a Professor in the Department of Technology at Trier University of Applied Sciences, where he has been serving since 2008. He is also the Head of Medical Technology and Vice Dean of the Department of Technology. His academic and research work focuses on electrical measurement technology and medical technology, particularly in the development and optimization of systems for electrophysiological signal acquisition.
He holds a doctorate from Saarland University (2003) with a thesis on intelligent microimplants for neuroprosthetics and earned his engineering degree from Saarland University of Applied Sciences in 1997. Prior to joining Trier, he was head of the Neuroprosthetics working group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering (1998–2007) and held a professorship in Measurement Technology and Electronics at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences (2007–2008).
His research interests center on improving the spatial selectivity and artifact reduction in bioelectric signal measurements such as EEG and EKG. He investigates electrode design, material properties, and system integration to enhance signal quality, particularly under mechanical stress and electromagnetic interference. His work includes finite-element simulations, development of artifact and signal transmission models, and construction of specialized measurement setups for evaluating cable microphony and motion artifacts.
The applications of his research span clinical diagnostics, sports and wellness technology, and implantable devices like pacemakers and neuroprosthetics. He teaches courses including Electrophysiological Diagnostics, Medical Measurement Technology, and Neuroprosthetics.
- Member, International Functional Electrical Stimulation Society (IFESS)
- Member, German Society for Biomedical Engineering (DGBMT) within VDE
- Member, German Society for Neuromodulation
Prof. Koch leads the Medical Electronics Development Laboratory and has contributed to interdisciplinary research projects involving analog measurement systems and electrophysiological devices. While he has held a part-time professorship with a period of full-time consultancy in active implants, he remains an active academic and administrator. No specific scientific awards or publications are listed in the provided text.
