His research addresses two core questions: (1) predicting Earth system changes and (2) designing sustainable risk management strategies. This interdisciplinary work spans climate science, economics, decision theory, and ethics.
Major research themes from publications include:
- Equity considerations in climate economics
- Robust climate adaptation pathways
- Uncertainty management in flood risk
- Decision-making under deep uncertainty
Dr. Keller has been recognized as one of Reuters' World's top 1,000 climate scientists (2021) and received Penn State's Outstanding Postdoc Mentor Award (2019). He currently advises 5 PhD students including Alexis Hudes and Michael May.
His lab group maintains several major projects including MACH (Megalopolitan Coastal Transformation Hub), PCHES (Program for Coupled Human and Earth Systems), and HEALED (Health Effects of Deep Decarbonization). The group develops open-source modeling tools and maintains collaborative relationships with policy stakeholders.
