Klaas Anders is a historian and PhD candidate at the University of Bremen, affiliated with the DFG Research Training Group 2686 Contradiction Studies. His work explores the contradictory experiences of Czechoslovak exiles in Vienna (1968–1989), focusing on strategies of everyday survival, diaspora networks, and the interplay of anti-communism and Eastern Europeanism.
- Education: MA in Eastern European Studies (University of Hamburg), BA in History (University of Bremen)
Research Interests: Migration history, late socialism, subculture studies, and remembrance. His oral history methods and archival analysis examine transnational dissent, Cold War identities, and the cultural legacy of 1989.
Publications highlight themes of exile, memory, and political contradictions. Recent talks include presentations at Columbia University’s ASN World Convention and collaborations on Eastern European racism and global illiberalism.
Projects: Co-founder and chair of the So macht man Frühling festival, promoting German-Czech cultural exchange, and active in the Bremer Bündnis für deutsch-tschechische Zusammenarbeit e.V.
