Dr Kit Colliver is a Research Fellow in the York Law School at the University of York. Their current research focuses on criminal landlordism in the private rented sector and co-producing solutions, funded by the ESRC. They also investigate the impact of the UK’s cost of living crisis on local authorities and trans voters’ experiences of voter ID laws.
Education: PhD from Heriot-Watt University (2021), MSc in Social Research Methods (University of Edinburgh, 2016), and BA in Psychology and Philosophy.
Research Interests: Poverty, social inequality, normative welfare policy analysis, queer policy experiences, housing policy, and local government responses to crises.
Key Projects: 2023–25 ESRC project on criminal landlordism; 2023–24 study on voter ID laws affecting trans/non-binary voters; 2022–24 LOCALE project analyzing local authority responses to the cost of living crisis.
Grants and Collaborations: Collaborates with the York Policy Engine and I-SPHERE. Involved in UNICEF’s global spending analysis and Scotland’s Forensic Mental Health review. Peer reviews for Journal of Social Policy and Housing Studies.
Teaching: Leads seminars in Social and Public Policy programs, focusing on policy analysis and think-tank methodologies.
