Dr. Kishonna L. Gray is a Professor in the School of Information at the University of Michigan and a Faculty Associate at Harvard University's Berkman Klein Center. Her research focuses on identity, performance, and embodied deviance in digital environments with a specialization in Black Cyberfeminism and video game cultures. She has authored influential books such as Intersectional Tech: Black Users in Digital Gaming (2020) and Race, Gender, & Deviance in Xbox Live (2014), and co-edited volumes like Woke Gaming (2018) and Feminism in Play (2018). Her work bridges intersectional theory with digital media studies, examining marginalized communities' experiences online. Dr. Gray has been featured in media outlets including The New York Times, The Guardian, and Good Morning America for her analyses of online harassment, social media activism, and equity in gaming.
Her academic contributions include founding the Critical Gaming Lab at Eastern Kentucky University and the Equity in Gaming initiative. She holds a PhD from Arizona State University and has held roles such as MLK Visiting Scholar at MIT. Gray’s research emphasizes digital migration, Black feminist praxis, and the intersection of technology with race, gender, and justice.
