Kirsten Riches-Suman is an Associate Professor at the University of Bradford, working within the School of Chemistry & Biosciences in the Faculty of Life Sciences. She has established herself as a prominent researcher in diabetes and cardiovascular disease with a specific focus on cellular mechanisms.
Her educational background includes a BSc (Hons) in Biology (Molecular and Cellular) from the University of Huddersfield (2003), a PhD in Cardiovascular Medicine from the University of Leeds (2009), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice with distinction (2018).

Dr. Riches-Suman's research primarily investigates how diabetes impacts cell behavior and the underlying molecular mechanisms. Her work spans Type 2 diabetes, gestational diabetes, cardiovascular complications, and wound healing issues in diabetic patients. She has established numerous collaborative research projects across multiple institutions including the University of Leeds, Hull York Medical School, University of York, and Leeds Beckett University.
Her scientific contributions include 56 publications (26 conference publications, 5 magazine articles, and 25 peer-reviewed journal articles), with research focusing on cellular phenotyping in diabetes and vascular disease. She has received multiple awards at national and international conferences for her work.

Dr. Riches-Suman teaches the biological basis of disease, covering genetics, biochemistry, and pathology of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. She employs active learning techniques that have been flagged as examples of best practice by students. She began her career at the University of Bradford as a Lecturer in Biochemistry in November 2015 and transitioned to Lecturer in Biomedical Science in 2018 to better reflect her teaching responsibilities.
