Professor Kirsten Morley is a leading academic in Addiction Medicine at the Sydney Medical School, University of Sydney. She serves as Director of the Addiction Treatment Research Theme at the Edith Collins Centre and Addiction Medicine Research Lead for the Institute of Academic Medicine. Her work spans clinical trials, neuroimaging, and implementation science for alcohol use disorder (AUD) and comorbid mental illness.
- Research Focus: Psychedelic-assisted therapies (MDMA, psilocybin), neurobiological mechanisms of AUD, pharmacotherapies (N-acetylcysteine, baclofen), and implementation strategies for comorbid mental health/substance use disorders.
- Teaching: Unit Coordinator for Medicine (MD Year 2 Drug & Alcohol, MD Year 1 Alcohol & Health) and lecturer for Public Health (PUBH5225) and Brain & Mind Science programs.
Her recent publications emphasize neuroimaging applications in AUD, CBD effects on neural reactivity, and economic evaluations of pharmacotherapies. She leads four ongoing RCTs, including studies on psychedelic-assisted therapy and N-acetylcysteine.
