Kirsten Haack is an Associate Professor in International Politics at Northumbria University, specializing in United Nations governance, leadership dynamics, and gender equality in global institutions. She holds academic qualifications including a PhD from the University of Kent, an MA from Ruhr University Bochum, and an MEd from the Open University Milton Keynes.
Her research focuses on three core areas: leadership and agenda development within the UN, gender representation and equality in international organizations, and visual representation of international relations and statehood. She co-leads the international Women in Leadership in Global Governance (WiLiGG) network and is engaged in projects analyzing the history of gender equality at the UN and conceptualizing women’s leadership in global governance. Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and gender equality.
Haack is currently accepting PhD students in areas such as UN Secretary-General leadership, gender and international law, and the use of force. She has published extensively, including a forthcoming monograph on women’s leadership in the UN system, and her work has been featured in venues like Global Governance and the Routledge Handbook of International Organization.
