Kirsten Fermaglich is a Professor at Michigan State University, teaching History and Jewish Studies since 2001. Her research focuses on ethnic identity, gender, and migration in the United States, particularly examining secular Jewish communities.
Her work explores intersections of race, class, and family with ethnic identity, alongside her current project on post-WWII Jewish migration to college towns. She has authored two influential books and co-edited a critical edition of Betty Friedan’s The Feminine Mystique.
Key publications include A Rosenberg by Any Other Name (2018) on American name-changing, which won the Saul Viener Prize (2019), and American Dreams and Nazi Nightmares (2006) on Holocaust narratives in Jewish intellectual history.
