Kirsten Farrell is the Associate Dean (Students) at the University of Portsmouth’s Faculty of Science and Health. She holds a Senior Lecturer academic rank within the School of Dental, Health and Care Professions. Her clinical background includes specialization in CT and MRI as a Diagnostic Radiographer, with postgraduate training in Forensic Radiography and Medical Physics. She joined the University of Portsmouth in 2011, becoming a Senior Lecturer by 2013 and later progressing to her current leadership role in 2021.
Education includes a training at the University of Exeter, postgraduate units at Birmingham City University, and Open University courses in Medical Imaging and Physics. She is enrolled in a Professional Doctorate in Education (EdD), focusing on neurodivergent students’ access to support in higher education.
Her research interests center on neurodiversity in HE, student support mechanisms, attrition/retention strategies, and healthcare education. She chairs the Staff Neurodiversity Network and contributes to university committees like the Student Experience Committee.
Teaching responsibilities include supporting BSc Diagnostic Radiography and Medical Imaging students. Her leadership roles have involved student recruitment, global engagement, and employability initiatives across the Faculty.
