Kirsten Benum is an Associate Professor at the Department of Psychology, University of Oslo. She specializes in clinical psychology with a focus on trauma, therapeutic relationships, and psychotherapy integration. Her research includes an NFR-funded project on the interpersonal aspects of psychotherapy outcomes. She teaches courses such as Psychological Treatment of Adults and Active Psychotherapy Understanding and Change.
Research Interests: Dr. Benum’s work centers on therapist development, trauma psychology (particularly dissociative disorders), attachment theory, and mindfulness. She explores how therapeutic relationships facilitate healing, especially in cases of complex trauma and dissociation.
Publications: Her recent work includes studies on yoga in eating disorder treatment, outcomes in psychotherapy, and case studies like the “Cora” therapy narrative. These contributions highlight innovative interventions and methodological advancements in clinical research.
