Kirk O. Hanson is a Senior Fellow at the Markkula Center for Applied Ethics at Santa Clara University and a former executive director of the Center. He is also an emeritus faculty member at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, where he taught for 23 years. His roles include advising over 100 businesses on corporate ethics programs and serving on multiple ethics-related boards and advisory committees.
Education:

Research Interests: Focuses on business ethics, corporate governance, leadership ethics, and the design of ethical organizational cultures. His work spans fields such as health care, internet ethics, and K-12 character education.
Articles: Co-edited the influential The Accountable Corporation series (2006), exploring ethical frameworks for corporate responsibility and leadership.

Advising & Grants: Advised over 100 businesses on ethics programs. Served as founding president of The Business Enterprise Trust and chair of Stanford’s Committee on Investment Responsibility. Currently advises the Neely Center for Ethical Leadership and the Center for International Business Ethics.
Labs/Teams: Directly oversees the Markkula Center’s interdisciplinary team of 25 staff and 70 affiliated faculty, advancing applied ethics across multiple domains.
