Dr. Kirk Anderson is a Professor of Educational Administration at the Faculty of Education, Memorial University of Newfoundland. Born in Newfoundland with Mi’kmaq and Inuit ancestry, he holds degrees from Memorial University and a Ph.D. from Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto. His career spans teaching, school administration, and academic leadership roles, including Dean of Education at Memorial University (2011–2019). He has served in key national roles, such as President of the Association of Canadian Deans of Education and Vice President (Anglophone) of the Canadian Society for Studies in Education.
His research focuses on Indigenous education, teacher leadership, social justice, and education reform. Notable contributions include studies on Inuit schooling in Nunavik, transformational leadership in rural settings, and indigenization of academic institutions. He has actively contributed to policy-making, including the 2015–16 Newfoundland and Labrador public education review panel.
Awarded the University of Calgary’s Teaching Excellence Award (2007), he has authored over 50 publications. His work emphasizes equity, cultural responsiveness, and leadership development. He remains engaged with the University of the Arctic Indigenous Issues Committee, advocating for northern education perspectives.
