Kiran Parthasarathy

Kiran Parthasarathy is an Instructional Associate Professor and Faculty Director of Principles Accounting Courses at the C.T. Bauer College of Business, University of Houston. She holds a PhD from the University of Houston and has taught over 10,000 students, focusing on innovative teaching methods to enhance learning outcomes. Her research spans accounting education, bank risk management, and corporate governance. She has received multiple prestigious awards, including the Outstanding Teaching Award and multiple TIP grants from the UH Provost.

Dr. Parthasarathy’s education includes a PhD and MBA from the University of Houston, an MIB from the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, and a BCom from the University of Madras. Her work integrates industry insights from her prior role as a manager of financial derivatives in a multinational bank.

Her research interests emphasize improving student engagement in both traditional and virtual accounting classrooms, analyzing the impact of the 2008 financial crisis on bank disclosures, and exploring the interplay between corporate governance mechanisms and accounting conservatism. She regularly publishes in journals like Issues in Accounting Education and Accounting and Finance Research.

Dr. Parthasarathy has secured six TIP grants and coordinates a team of instructors to design courses, adopt technology, and resolve pedagogical challenges. Her awards reflect her dedication to teaching excellence, particularly in clinical settings. She serves on the editorial board of Issues in Accounting Education and contributes to professional associations like the American Accounting Association.
