Kira Patterson is a Senior Lecturer in Health Pedagogy within the Faculty of Education at the University of Tasmania. Her research focuses on health literacy development through school-based programs like HealthLit4Kids, which she co-developed to bridge health education across schools, families, and communities.
Her primary research examines health literacy profiles of vulnerable populations including pregnant women and mothers, using cluster analysis to identify intervention strategies. She investigates socioeconomic influences on physical activity access and youth sports participation, particularly examining equity in inter-school athletic competitions.
Dr. Patterson leads multiple funded projects including the Digital Solutions expansion of HealthLit4Kids internationally and the CAPITOL obesity prevention study. She supervises doctoral students researching sport interventions for trauma-impacted youth and health literacy solutions.
