Kira Donnell is Lecturer Faculty in Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University and Faculty Director of Justice, Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion (JEDI) at SF State's Center for Equity and Excellence in Teaching and Learning. She has held this position since 2015.

Research Focus: Her work examines Korean adoptees' identity development through media representations in American and South Korean cultural productions. She analyzes how nationalist narratives appropriate the 'Korean orphan' figure to foster patriotism and belonging, employing interdisciplinary approaches from Cultural Studies, Critical Adoption Studies, and Critical Mixed Race Studies.
Publication Trends: Her scholarly output consistently explores themes of transnational adoption, identity formation, and cultural representation across disciplines including Ethnic Studies, Sociology, and Literature. Recent works demonstrate increasing focus on Critical Mixed Race Studies frameworks and decolonization perspectives.
