Kimberly McMillan is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Ottawa, specializing in nursing ethics, palliative care, and organizational complexity. She holds a PhD in Nursing (2018) and BSc in Nursing (2007) from the University of Ottawa and University of Lethbridge, respectively. Her research focuses on nurses' experiences within complex healthcare systems, using qualitative methodologies to explore ethical practice, institutional ethics, and socio-political dimensions of nursing work.
Dr. McMillan has received the 2023 HMF Article of the Year Award for her work on mental health and return-to-work pathways. She leads national initiatives like the 'Repairing the Nursing Workforce' project (CIHR-funded) and serves as National Director of Professional Practice for the Canadian Palliative Care Nursing Association. Her clinical background spans pediatric oncology and palliative care.
Teaching includes courses on healthcare politics, nursing theory, and advanced practice. She actively engages in interdisciplinary research and policy advocacy, with over 30 peer-reviewed publications and numerous grants totaling $2.5M+.
