Her research focuses on the intersections of religion, race, and gender in the modern Americas. She explores how muscular Christianity—a movement emphasizing the muscular male body in late 19th-century evangelicalism—interacted with new imperialism, challenging simplistic binaries of imperialist domination and resistance. This work situates muscular Christianity as a site of both hegemonic power and contested liberation.
Professor Diaz teaches courses on religion, race, and gender in the modern United States and Latin America. Her office hours are Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00-5:00 PM in Fowler 414, with appointments available outside these times. Contact: diazk@oxy.edu
