Kim Munro is a Program Director for Film and Television at UniSA Creative at the University of South Australia. She holds a PhD in expanded documentary practices and the politics of listening from RMIT University (2019). Her research focuses on documentary film, digital media, and creative practice, particularly through expanded forms, experimental film, and questions of place. She is currently leading the project The Art of Work is a Work of Art (2023–2025), a live audio performance exploring the history of the experimental theatre Vitalstatistix in Port Adelaide. Her work has been featured on ABC, international festivals, and published in journals and magazines like Studies in Documentary Film and The Conversation.
Kim has taught at RMIT, Swinburne, and Deakin Universities, and organized documentary events such as the Australian International Documentary Conferences (AIDC). She is affiliated with the Creative People, Products and Places Research Centre (CP3) and serves on editorial boards for journals like Media Practice and Education. Her research emphasizes interactive and immersive media (e.g., XR/VR), sound studies, and the intersection of documentary with climate change and decolonization.
