معرفی
Kim Kandl serves as Professor of Biology and Director of Biomolecular Science at St. Olaf College, holding the Paul and Mildred Hardy Distinguished Professor of Science title. Her office is located in Regents Hall (Natural Science) 382.
She earned her Ph.D. in biological sciences from Purdue University, Lafayette IN.
Dr. Kandl's research employs cellular and molecular genetics techniques to investigate the eukaryotic ciliate Tetrahymena thermophila, with current projects spanning four key areas:
- Protease functions in the SUMOylation pathway
- Cellular/gene expression changes during centrifugation ("Dizzy" Tetrahymena project)
- ABC transporters
- Lipid droplets (collaboration with Listenberger lab)
She teaches Intermediate Genetics, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, First Year Writing – Genes and Genomes, and Equatorial Biology courses.
Dr. Kandl actively mentors undergraduate researchers in her laboratory across all current project domains, with student projects directly contributing to her lab's research output.
