Kim Guldstrand Larsen is a Full Professor in Computer Science at Aalborg University, Denmark, a position he has held since 1993. He serves as director of CISS, the Centre for Embedded Software Systems, a national center of excellence bridging industry and research since 2002, and holds leadership roles in multiple international research initiatives.
His academic credentials include a Cand.Scient. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Aalborg University (1982) and a PhD in Computer Science from Edinburgh University, Scotland (1986). His career includes visiting professorships at institutions including Uppsala University, École Normale Supérieure in Cachan, and University of Twente.
Professor Larsen's research centers on modeling, verification, and performance analysis of real-time and embedded systems, with foundational contributions to concurrency theory and model checking. Since 1995, he has led development of UPPAAL, a widely adopted verification tool, and co-founded UP4ALL International. His work spans theoretical foundations to practical applications in cyber-physical systems.

His significant research funding includes leadership of the DaNES project, VKR Center of Excellence MT-LAB, national ICT Innovation Network InfinIT, and the Danish-Chinese Basic Research Center IDEA4CPS.
He leads the Modeling and Validation Cluster within the EU/IST Network of Excellence ARTIST Design and directs multiple research centers focused on embedded software systems, maintaining active roles in editorial boards, conference steering committees, and national research councils.
