Kim Bouwer

Dr. Kim Bouwer is an Assistant Professor at Durham Law School and a Visiting Senior Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute, London School of Economics. Her expertise lies in climate change and environmental law, private law (torts), and climate litigation, with a focus on Africa and global comparative perspectives.

Her research explores the intersection of climate justice, legal frameworks, and corporate accountability, culminating in an edited book on African climate litigation. She has led international projects like the Global Perspectives on Corporate Climate Legal Tactics, supported by institutions such as the British Institute for International and Comparative Law.

Dr. Bouwer’s recent work, including the 2024 article Conceptualizing just transition litigation, addresses the rise of climate litigation as a tool for systemic justice, with subfields spanning African environmental policy, human rights, and sustainability legal frameworks. She has also contributed to corporate climate litigation analysis in the UK.
