Kilian Atuoye is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Global Development Studies at Queen's University, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Science. He holds a PhD in Health Geography from the University of Western Ontario.
His research focuses on health equity, environmental and social determinants of health, and the impacts of structural inequalities on non-communicable diseases, food security, and mental health in the Global South and Canada. Key areas include the health consequences of large-scale land acquisitions in Tanzania, HIV-related stigma in Malawi, and maternal healthcare access in sub-Saharan Africa. Theoretical frameworks include political ecology, critical race theory, and health geography.
Recent work analyzes intersections between climate change, migration, and food security, as well as disparities in physical activity norms among immigrant populations in New York City. His scholarship emphasizes community-centered approaches to address health inequities through policy strategies.
Publications span peer-reviewed journals like Social Science and Medicine and Land Use Policy, focusing on topics such as health policy, environmental governance, and global health equity. Supervisory interests include social epidemiology, food security, and healthcare access for marginalized populations.
