Dr. Kieran O'Doherty is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Guelph, affiliated with the College of Social & Applied Human Sciences. His research focuses on the social and ethical dimensions of science and technology, particularly in health contexts such as genetic testing, biobanks, and childhood vaccination. He employs qualitative methods including discourse analysis and public deliberation to explore issues of ethics, risk communication, and participatory governance.
His work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, integrating psychology with science and technology studies (STS), medical sociology, and philosophy. Key research areas include genetic risk communication, microbiome ethics, and public engagement in policy-making. Dr. O'Doherty leads the Discourse, Science, Publics research group, fostering student involvement in qualitative research across health, science, and public policy domains.
