Professor Kieran Moran serves as the Head of Department for the Department of Sport Science and Nutrition at Maynooth University, having joined in May 2025. Previously, he served as Head of School in the School of Health & Human Performance at Dublin City University, bringing extensive leadership experience to his new role.
Professor Moran is recognized for his pioneering research in Biomechanics and Human Movement Science. His work focuses on enhancing movement capacity, reducing injury risk, and optimizing rehabilitation across the lifespan. He has led innovative projects involving sensor-based technologies to assess and improve movement outside of laboratory settings and has developed novel algorithms to analyze complex motion data. His research also explores neuromuscular injury mechanisms, vibration training, and individualized movement optimization, challenging the notion of a one-size-fits-all approach to performance enhancement.
With over 6,000 citations and a strong collaborative network across academia and industry, Professor Moran's leadership is set to elevate the department's research and teaching profile. His work bridges the gap between theoretical biomechanics and practical applications in real-world settings, particularly through the use of sensor-based technologies that can be deployed outside traditional laboratory environments.
Professor Moran leads the Department of Sport Science and Nutrition, which was established in 2023 at Maynooth University. The department offers innovative undergraduate programmes in Sport Science and Health, as well as Food Science and Human Nutrition, with a strong emphasis on health, nutrition, exercise physiology, injury rehabilitation, and lifelong well-being.
