معرفی
Kieran McGourty is an Associate Professor at the University of Limerick, holding joint appointments in the Bernal Institute, Department of Chemical Sciences, Health Research Institute, Limerick Digital Cancer Research Centre, and SSPC - the SFI Research Centre for Pharmaceuticals. His research focuses on interdisciplinary studies at the intersection of Biomedical Engineering, Cell Biology, and Microfluidics, particularly in reconstituting stem cell niches in vitro using insights from in vivo systems. Key areas include stem cell differentiation, extracellular matrix (ECM) biology, infection and immunity, and advanced imaging techniques.
Education: PhD (Imperial College London, 2007), MSc (Imperial College London, 2006), BSc (Hons) (2001).
Research interests span stem cell niche engineering, ECM dynamics, and mechanobiology of tissues. His lab (Bernal BioSciBER) explores applications in regenerative medicine, psoriasis treatment via hydrogel-based drug delivery systems, and understanding microbiome interactions. Collaborations emphasize translational research in cancer, tissue mechanics, and biomedical device design.
Notable awards include the Best PhD Talk Winner (2010) and Gordon Research Conference Poster Winner (2016). His work contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in advancing health and well-being (SDG 3) through biomedical innovation.
Advising and grants: While formal student lists are not provided, his lab supports interdisciplinary projects in stem cell engineering and biomaterials. Grants focus on translational biomedical research and collaborative initiatives in pharmaceutical sciences.
Labs/Teams: Lead the Bernal BioSciBER lab, engaging with the Bernal Institute’s broader research network to bridge engineering and biological systems.
