Jennifer Cookman is a Research Fellow in the Department of Chemical Sciences at the University of Limerick, affiliated with the Bernal Institute and the SSPC – the SFI Research Centre for Pharmaceuticals. She holds a PhD from University College Dublin (2017), where her thesis focused on nanoparticle characterization using electron tomography. Her research expertise lies in in situ liquid phase electron microscopy (LPEM) to study pharmaceutical crystallization, nanoparticle behavior, and material design for biomedical applications. Key projects include the Horizon 2020 MagnaPharm initiative, exploring magnetic field manipulation of nanocrystal growth, and the SFI Pathways Fellowship investigating pre-nucleation entities in crystallization processes.
Dr. Cookman’s education includes a PhD in Chemical Sciences and postdoctoral training at the University of Limerick. Her work bridges nanotechnology, pharmaceutical science, and materials engineering, with a focus on real-time observation of nanoscale phenomena. Current research emphasizes optimizing drug delivery systems, developing advanced microscopy techniques, and addressing environmental challenges like PFAS remediation using MOF-based interfaces.
Her scientific awards include a 2021 Irish Research Council Postdoctoral Fellowship and a 2022 SFI Pathways Fellowship. She aims to establish a research group advancing in situ electron microscopy applications in pharmaceuticals and nanochemistry, fostering collaborative innovation in sustainable materials and biomedical technologies.
Key contributions include pioneering LPEM for crystal nucleation studies, designing functionalized nanoparticles for drug delivery, and elucidating mesoscale cluster dynamics in pharmaceutical compounds.
