Kiel Moe is an Associate Professor of Architecture & Energy at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design, where he co-directs the MDes program and leads the Energy, Environments, and Design research unit. His work challenges conventional energy discourse in architecture through innovative design research and pedagogy.
Moe's research examines the epistemological foundations of energy in building design, proposing alternative frameworks that integrate material science, thermodynamics, and construction practices. At Harvard, he coordinates the Energy & Environments concentration and teaches advanced graduate studios and seminars focused on energy-material relationships in architecture.
As a registered architect, his practice bridges theoretical research with built projects, exploring how energy flows and material systems shape architectural performance and environmental impact. His work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to sustainable design across multiple scales.
