Khaska Somar serves as a Permanent member (Maître de Conférences) at the University of Nîmes, holding the academic rank of Associate Professor specializing in Geochemistry. As CHROME Axis 3 Animator, Dr. Somar leads critical environmental research initiatives within the university's scientific ecosystem.
Research focuses on Environmental Geochemistry and Hydrogeochemistry, with expertise in contaminant transport mechanisms (organic/inorganic pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical residues) across soil-plant systems and aquatic environments. Key investigations include isotopic water tracing, groundwater/surface water interactions, salinization processes, and platinoid geology. This interdisciplinary work bridges organic chemistry with environmental hydrology to address pressing contamination challenges.
Dr. Somar actively supervises doctoral students through the university's structured research framework and contributes to the CHROME research consortium (Chimie, Environnement, Eau, Santé, Santé au Travail, Microbiologie, Environnement). Research is supported by the Analytical Techniques Platform featuring advanced physicochemical, molecular biology, and microbiology equipment for comprehensive environmental analysis.
