Khaled Malas is an Adjunct Assistant Professor at The Cooper Union's Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture. He serves as principal of Sigil, an art/design collective exploring Arab landscapes transformed by historical and contemporary struggles. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Chicago Architecture Biennial (2023) and British Museum (2022-2024).
His research examines images and image-making technologies that challenge the potential of real and imagined places. He is currently completing a PhD in Islamic Art and Architectural History at NYU's Institute of Fine Arts, focusing on medieval magico-medicinal bowls depicting the Kaaba. Malas also teaches at NYU's Gallatin School and Pratt Institute's History of Art and Design Department.
Malas holds a post-Professional Master's Degree in Architecture from Cornell University and a Bachelor of Engineering in Architecture from the American University of Beirut. His creative practice explores affective design through site-specific installations like The Longest Words: Three Talismans for Conditioning the Air (2024).
